About Westchester Aviation Association

The Westchester Aviation Association (WAA) is the voice of general aviation at Westchester County Airport (HPN).

WAA represents a growing number of individuals, businesses, and corporations from all over the United States but primarily from the Northeast.

The goals of the membership are to:

• Promote the value and benefit of HPN to the general public, government officials and the media.
  
• Promote harmony, coordination and cooperation within the local aviation community.
  
• Promote safe, secure and environmentally friendly operating practices.
  
• Promote enhancement of aviation facilities at HPN that improve safety, utility and efficiency.

WAA Achievements

ECONOMIC VALUE

• Conducted Aviation Community / Business Community Luncheons at the airport attended by more than 800 aviation, business and governmental leaders. The luncheon programs highlighted the economic value of the airport to the region as well as the good citizenship of the aviation community.
  
• Plans and conducts annual Career Fairs for local school children. Over a thousand children attended this event each year. Positive media coverage of the event included local TV news and local newspapers.
  

SAFETY / SECURITY

• Facilitated FAA commitment to install airport data link communication (TDLS) in early 2005, visibility measurement tools (RW34 RVR) in early 2005, and use of Coded Departure Routes (CDR) which will reduce frequency congestion and enhance safety. Pressing for installation of complete Category II facilities to improve safety.
  
• WAA represented local aviation community with FAA & TSA as one of the few participants in the security planning sessions for 2004 Republican National Convention.
  
• WAA worked collaboratively with Westchester County Department of Public Safety to develop effective but operationally flexible security protocol at HPN.
  
• WAA distributed Email notifications to our community of key safety & security issues.
  

ENVIRONMENTAL

• The aviation community has achieved a 41% reduction in the noise footprint around HPN since 1988. The noise footprint is forecast to continue to decrease through 2007. This decrease is due to tremendous investment in new quieter aircraft, improved training of airman and good citizenship by local aviators & companies in avoiding operations during the overnight hours as much as possible. This effort has been recognized by Westchester County in their annual awards ceremony to the community.
  
• The aviation community has collaborated with the Airport Environmental Management Office to help achieve ISO certification in 2004.
  

GOVERNMENTAL

• WAA leaders continue to represent you at Airport Advisory Board meetings and Board of Legislature meetings as appropriate.
  
• WAA leaders continue to represent the aviation community during the NY, NJ & PHL airspace redesign meetings.
  
• WAA leaders continue represent the aviation community in meetings with local Congressional representatives.
